I was recently diagnosed with uterine fibroids and my doctor offered me options that I don't like – drugs and surgery. What is the best treatment for uterine fibroids?

My doctor suggests I get a endometrial ablation, which basically destroys the lining of my uterus and would make me infertile. This is because one of the fibroids is growing under the lining. This “treatment” would only help with the mentstrual symptoms (lighter, shorter, less painful), but not with the day to day pain. The fibroids would continue to grow and I would still have to have surgery.

I would prefer to shrink the fibroids, and go with a natural method if possible. Please advise what is the best course of action. I would like to at least have one child.

Alternative Treatment For Fibroids – Shrink Fibroids Without Surgery

Many women truly believe that their options to shrink fibroids naturally are severely limited and in some respects they are. Alternative treatment for fibroids is rarely fully endorsed by doctors as it is not as straightforward as taking a pill or having surgery.

It is important to understand though that most conventional doctors do recognize the validity of using natural treatments. I have been to various OB/GYN's over the years. My biggest problem has always been that every month I have very bad cramps when I have my period. So much that for the first 3 days I end up laying around and sleeping. (On top of that I have heavy bleeding and clots.)

One OB/GYN mentioned something about natural methods, which never worked.

I have twice tried the birth control pills that only let you have a period once every 3 months and both times I got violently sick, throwing up and instead of not having a period I would have some kind of green discharge.

I have tried Motrin, Tylenol, Aleve, Midol, Vicodin and Percesets(sp?) The only thing that ever helped my pain was some kind of pain med called Indomethacin. I am tired of trying to pop pills every month though.

I have tried heat pads, cold compresses, exercise, hot baths.

I am actually at a point where I am wanting to just get a hysterectomy (I had a tubal done years ago, so having children is not something I have to worry about.) I just can't continue to do this month after month. I once had a MRI and they said I had some fibroids, but at the time I guess not big enough to say it would be hurting me that much. That was about 10 years ago though.

What are my options? How do I convey to this new OB/GYN that I need something else done?
